Gerber Daisies and a Picket Fence!
I saw these wooden stakes in a bundle at my local hardware store in the cement department, and I thought, “These would make a great picket fence.” I made this for my little girl’s bedroom. I decorated her room in a Shabby Chic design, but this can be put in any girlie, cute, or fun room. The total cost was around $20.00. The most expensive item was the grass.
Tools: staple gun, wire cutters, paint brush, hammer, nails
Supplies: bundle of stakes, gel tape, craft paint in your choice of colors (I used a cream color for my fence posts and an olive green for the name stake), black marker, Gerber daisies, small foam or Styrofoam blocks, floral grass, a small flat wood rectangle, piece of ribbon, and a small watering can
Let’s Do This!
First paint your stakes and let them dry. (ten cream, and one green)
Next, make 10 marks, 4and1/2 inches apart on your wall where you want to place your fence.
Next, use the wire cutters to cut your grass into 10 small clusters, you will staple the grass to your wall using the staple gun.
On each mark on the wall staple up the center of the grass until secure, make sure you allow the grass to fall freely at the top for a natural look. You will cover up each section of grass and the staples with your fence posts, so make sure each cluster is uniform and evenly spaced.
Next, randomly staple the Gerber daisies to the grass and wall. You can use the wire cutters and cut the flowers to different lengths if so desired. Make sure to use an odd number, it looks better that way. (I used seven.)
Next,
Cut the foam into 10 small square blocks.
Gel tape (found at Walmart).
Cut a small piece of the gel tape and attach it to the middle of each stake.
Attach the foam blocks to the stakes with the gel tape. Cut an additional piece of gel tape and place it on the outer side of the foam block. (This is the side you will stick to the wall.)
Finish the fence by taking the stake and with the gel taped side of the foam place it over the clumps of grass directly to the wall. Press in place. This will give the fence a three dimensional look.
For the sign I turned one stake over and painted it green. I placed a wooden rectangle I painted cream over the top of it. (I found the rectangle at a craft store in the unpainted wood section.) I nailed the sign directly to the wall so it was flush. I used a black marker to write the name.
Finish the project by nailing a long ribbon directly to the ceiling. Tie the watering can to it and let it hang freely. Step back and admire your work of art!!
